What People & Organizations Want !

"We don't see things as they are, We see things as we are"....goes the cliche.
Do employees and organizations perceive the same thing? or is it different? Organizations often complain about lack of commitment from its folks! But if you turned the table, then the same quote is made by the people of the organization.

"To engage employees and make them want to work with your business is going to be one of the greatest organizational battles" ~ Jack Welch

What is it that really drives Commitment? What do people want? Well, the common punchline from the people is "I want a meaningful job and I want time to do my own stuff as well". But even organizations are built with the same frame of mind. Meaningful employment and growth potential.

May be the best way out is to map the expectations, what People & Organizations want:
People Want to

  • Enjoy life & work, achieve success & excel at what they do.
  • Do work they care about on their own terms; create and deliver financial & human value.
  • Create & express a unique professional identity as themselves.
  • Find the right organization & the role that suits them best.
  • Make a valued & recognized contribution to the organization which understands their work style & lifestyle needs.

Organizations Want to
  • Engage the people they serve & enable, encourage & reward outstanding performance.
  • Provide enriching prodice & deliver financial & human value to all stakeholders.
  • Create & build a distinctive corporate brand.
  • Find the right people & match them with the right Roles.
  • Enable & reward contribution to corporate purpose.
All in all, organization & the people they employ really want the same things. So why do we have to make it so difficult for people to do what they naturally want to do anyway: Contribute?
