CSR and The Water Crisis

CSR and The Water Crisis

"you don't know the value of water untill the wells go dry"...........So aptly said. Earth, this beautiful planet is made up of 3/4 water, but only 3% is fresh water. Yet there is water, water everywhere, not a drop to drink or spare. The irony is that we humans still don't seem to understand the signidficance of water.

March 22 is celebrated as World Water Day. An opportunity for the Coporates to showcase their serious interests in conserving and better usage of this natural resource. CSR now been mandatory for Indian Corporates. Most corporates are well aware of the CSR rules. Water harvesting is one of the inititatives approved as per the CSR Policy.

Yet Wtaer harvesting doesn't seem to be on the priority for any of the companies.Skyscrapers are growing and water tables are depleting. What a paradox.

We claim today that the water crisis has impacted us very badly. The rivers have dried out and the dams are barren land. It is now or never for the Governments to make 'Water harvesting' mandatory for for all Real Estate Companies.

Now we come down to the costs of the project. These costs may be funded through the CSR corpus of these Real Estate giants. The Met department has predicted good rainfall for this year. It is an opportunity for all of us to fill the empty glasses of Mother earth once again.
